Rupert Fires Up New Diversion Strategy I just watched a very interesting interview with the BBC’s Media Show host, Steve Hewlett, in which he outlined the way things have panned out for the Murdochs over the three British media inquiries that have now been held. During the first two public inquiries, the Murdochs – James and Rupert – were humbled and had the blow torch on them. They appeared dazed and both they and their company were shown to be in the wrong. During the past three days, however, as each of them has taken the stand, they have confidently turned the focus right back on to Britain’s political leaders – past and present. They have done this in a very measured and deliberate way: by providing details – and only just enough – to show how a whole series of leaders has been secretive about their involvement and “cosy-ness” with them! The result is that the media, at large, has now turned its focus away from the Murdochs’ follies to those of the politicians – by demonstrating the politicians’ lack of honesty and transparency. As expected, the heat has really been turned up on the current British Culture Minister Jeremy Hunt over his office’s communications with the Murdochs – as revealed by James two days ago. And today, Rupert opened another can of worms by casually revealing a list of meetings he has had with the Prime Minster David Cameron – meetings Cameron had himself failed to declare. The Murdochs know how it all works and it seems a very strategic “deflection” move has now been made by the family and its company. Both know full well that these political storms will loom for days – and sell papers. In amongst all this, Rupert today admitted that the phone hacking scandal had been covered up but claimed he knew nothing because the details did not reach either him or his son James – something I find hard to believe coming from a man who is so “hands-on”. Anyway, if you wish to read more, I suggest you head to any of these stories: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/apr/26/murdoch-admits-phone-hacking-coverup http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/rupert-murdoch-leveson-inquiry-live-... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/leveson-inquiry/9228382/Rupert-Murdoch... via the2012scenario.com
