KSU's Employee Ownership Center honored: Business Notebook

HONORS
The Ohio Association of Cooperative Educators honored Kent State University's Ohio Employee Ownership Center, the center's late founder, John Logue, and center staffer Bob Cohen at its annual conference in Cleveland. Logue, who died in December, received a posthumous award named after him for his work organizing and promoting cooperatives. Cohen received the Reginald J. Cressman Award for staff development.
Regan Reik of Pier W restaurant in Lakewood won the Top Chef award and a $2,500 cash prize at the annual Top Chef competition at St. John Medical Center.

Stewart Acquisition LLC, Twinsburg: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing an innovative hose-end sprayer.
MegaJoule Storage Inc., Cleveland: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing a utility-scale energy storage system using lead-carbon asymmetric capacitors.
Cutting Systems Inc., Brook Park: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. For development of a plasma cutting machine to cut shapes out of steel plate.
Breakthrough Technology Development Inc., Brecksville: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing a carbon nanofiber thin film heater.
Algisys LLC, Highland Heights: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing high-protein animal feed and pet food from algae.
Cleveland Medical Devices Inc., Cleveland: $60,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing a device for sleep apnea screening.
NuVention Solutions LLC, Avon Lake: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing a bio-resource resin from animal waste.
Alphaport Inc., Cleveland: $40,000 loan, Cuyahoga County New Product Development and Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Developing an advanced ignition system for green fuels.
