CEO of rlg Communications receives ECOWAS Entrepreneurship Award

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA - Mr Roland Agambire, Chief Executive Officer of rlg Communications, a local mobile phone assembling company, has won the maiden edition of the ECOWAS Entrepreneurship and Innovation Awards.

    

The award was in recognition of Mr Agambire's outstanding achievement in the establishment of rlg Communications, which is based in Ghana, producing mobile phones to serve ECOWAS markets, an initiative the sub-regional trade organisation believes has the potential to advance the cause of economic integration among its members.

    

Mr Agambire therefore, became the first Ghanaian to win such a prestigious sub-regional award, which comes with a certificate and a plaque crafted in the form of a cocoa bean.

    

Mr Wilson Atta Krofah, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) presented the award to Mr Agambire on behalf of ECOWAS in Accra on Thursday at a meeting between members of chamber and a Turkish Business delegation.

    

The Award was originally presented at an ECOWAS Forum held from September 27 to October 1, in Cote d Ivoire, but Mr Agambire could not attend.

    

In his acceptance speech, Mr Agambire dedicated the award to the youth of Ghana.

    

He urged them to develop a positive mindset with a strong belief that they could make it and begin to work hard towards the accomplishment of their target goal.

    

He thanked ECOWAS for the award as well as GNCCI for the recognition.

    

Mr Atta Krofah, who is also President of the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said at its Annual Business Forum, ECOWAS reflected on deepening the role of the private sector in its integration efforts.

    

He said the forum resolved to award prizes to business operators as well as member states who distinguish themselves in specific fields such as Innovation in Energy, Young Entrepreneur's Award and Best Free Movement Member State.

    

He said the Chambers of Commerce and Industry were also requested to select and present one entrepreneur in each member State for outstanding entrepreneurship particularly in the Energy and Information Communication Technology sectors.

    

Mr Atta Krofah the exercise led to the selection of Mr Agambire for the award.
