We don't need to follow Light OR Darkness - Esoteric Online

Yes, the New World Order has arrived. Yes, it brings revelations concerning the final secrets of UFOs and every other category of cosmic or occult phenomena. Yes, it has to do with some form of the Apocalypse. Yes, secret societies, both more and less human than the rest of us, have been working on this for thousands of years. Yes, the Dead are also involved. Yes, all the myths, legends, and fairy tales of the past are true. Yes, everything is part of one great Plan scheduled to reach its completion in 2012.

No, there is nothing to fear. No, alien invasion is not on the menu. No, the sinister Manipulators of the global elite do not actually control anything anymore. No, prophecies of doom and gloom are not guaranteed to happen. No, any specific predictions about the 2012 Omega Point are not to be trusted, because everyone is guessing.

Today our collective consciousness exists uncomfortably in the outer porchway, at the entrance to what the Grail Knights of old called Chapel Perilous. In this very, very precarious place, uncertainty reigns supreme and paranoia fills the air. We are all in the midst of a crisis that is existential as well as spiritual.

You found your way here by following one of two paths.

The first type of path is private, personal, derived from your own esoteric quest for the truth. You could be an Adept of some occult style, or a true-believing follower of an existing religion, or a self-appointed Expert of conspiracies. Whatever your storyline may be, it led you to a place beyond the normal, mundane world. You are inside the Chapel, assigned whatever rooms correspond to your particular symbols. You may have even found a central position, your own Holy Grail, which makes all of the rooms in your pattern balance.

The second type of path is collective, driven by world events, specifically the War on Terror and related issues. Apocalyptic concerns cannot be ignored anymore. The symbol systems that govern us are in final collision, as opposing factions make their game moves in an attempt to control Chapel Perilous itself. These cosmic Authorities (again, all self-appointed) have many different paths through the labyrinth to sell you, marketed to tap into your fears and hopes simultaneously, all in the name of Final Truth. But it really just amounts to control. Shape the narrative, and you can control the event. They are all stage magicians trying to misdirect you into following their paths through the maze. They are not doing this for your own good. Their agenda is to reinforce their personal plotlines at the expense of your own, to cast you as an extra in their apocalyptic plays rather than have you direct and star in your own production.

Earth is currently undergoing the Weighing of the Conscience and factions for Order and Chaos are on the march trying to get you to follow. The White Lodge wants to save you and the Black Lodge wants to eat you. Whether you pick a God of Order or a God of Chaos, the Lodges make your eternal stay at the existential pole of your choice entirely convincing, satisfying, and justified.

Well my friends, we cannot afford to play Their games any longer, because 2012 is just around the corner and the Omega Point that we are approaching demands more of us than false prophecy can offer. Selective solutions are no solutions at all. The full, complete pattern of Chapel Perilous needs to be posted on the wall of the outer porchway for all to see. No more gurus. No more secrets. No more lies. No more half-truths masquerading as totalities.

In the wonderful television series Babylon 5, the hero of the human race has to make a very big decision. He has discovered that all the angels and devils of our mythologies come from two races of ancient aliens, the Vorlons, being of light who believe Order is the way to higher truth, and the Shadows, weird monsters who knock over all our anthills, bringing Chaos to force our evolution. The B5 series is all about the final round of the Great Game being played, with each planet in the galaxy being forced to pick a side. Finally, at the last possible Apocalyptic minute, our hero manages to expose the lies of both Black and White Lodges when he says:

"You're trying to force us to choose which of you is right. You're like parents arguing in front of their kids, manipulating them...not for their benefit, but for YOURS! Well, the truth is that we don't need you anymore. We can find our own path between Order and Chaos. Now get the hell out of our galaxy, the both of you!"

Hello, My name is Ignorance. - Esoteric Online

Hello, my name is Ignorance.

I act upon things without knowledge.

I am unaware of what spouts from my mouth.

I believe that i know everything there is to know, and no man or woman knows better than i.

What i say is truth, anything said otherwise is false.

I do not look into things i debate agents.

However, if i happen too... the information i gather is quickly perverted and forced into a filter, making sure that there are only two outcomes... either i will use the information to to my advantage and my way of thinking, or i will deny that such information is accurate and with haste exit whatever source I've been provided.

I do not consider others opinions or thoughts on the matter.

I am not a good listener, nor do i care to listen.

Until my death, i will be blind and deft to everything around me...

What i know, is what i stick by. For it is all that is real.

(The reason my life is this way, is because i fear any other way.)

*because i refuse to live any other way

*because this is the only way

*because no one knows the right way

*because my parents taught me to live this way

*because i came to the conclusion through life experiences that this is the right way.

*because the majority of people support this way.

*because i was forced to live this way.

*because i have no other way.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Educate yourself.

If you are going to make a statement, if you are going to make a claim, make sure you can back it up!

Not just through books, and the words of others.

Do so in a way that all can see, and experience.

Do so, in an honest way.

Be an honest woman/man.

Don't be ignorant.

Ignorance fails to let the mind grow and mature.

Your true goal in life,

is to find Truth.

Truth cannot be found, in a closed mind.

Nor can it be obtained through constant practice of the same things over and over and over.

Nor can it be discovered by repeating the same line of reasoning over and over and over.

This is called insanity.

Possible and Probable Realities - Esoteric Online

Possible Realities and Probable Realities are not the same. All realities are formed in your own head. The strength or weakness of your wants and desires are what triggers a new reality. Possible Realities are numerous – just about anything you can conceive of happening can be made to happen if enough energy is put behind the desire. Probable realities are a little different. These sometimes are formed without any desire to form them on your part. It's like they are inevitable due to the power that is within you of  "wanting" something. And this power comes from beyond the earth plane of existence. So you see these Probable Realities are more or less out of your hands while Possible Realities are totally within your control.

Possible Realities

You are a different entity, a different reality to each and every one who knows you. The way they perceive you is what makes the difference. When they say they are with you on the inner planes they are with their perception of you, which is their personal reality, which means they see you through the eyes of their personality. Your behavior and association with these ones in everyday life determine the reality they make out of you on the inner planes. Those who know you as a music teacher, for instance, in everyday life will form an entirely different reality of you than those who meet you at an aerobics class, for instance. As many people as you know are how many Possible Realities you have.

As far as how you can create a Possible Reality you can dream up a circumstance in your head and if you like it well enough to want to experience it in reality you can make the circumstances happen that will insure this taking place. Say for example you think you might want to become a rock star. If you daydream about it and visualize it enough you will find yourself practicing very hard and while doing so will imagine yourself in front of an audience. Then, say that auditions for a talent show come to an area near you, you will do everything within your power to go to these auditions. Perhaps you will win and you will be on your way to becoming a rock star. This is a Possible Reality (and has its beginnings in "thoughts are things.")

Probable Realities

Probable Realities are accomplished by sending thoughts, wishes and desires ahead into the upper levels of the mind. These can and do take form and live and express for a short period of time, similar to a time warp, only into the future.

Once, several years ago I was looking through a magazine and came across pictures of  Hawaii. One of the pictures had people in it. One of them looked exactly like me and another looked just like a woman that I worked with and her husband. This was startling to me and I kept that picture for a long time. It really disturbed me to think that there were others who looked exactly like us.

My teacher explained it to me as follows:

In your case Norma, you’ve always wanted to see Hawaii. This wish was so strong that it went forward into the upper levels of your mind and a Probable Reality did live and express there for a short period of time. As a matter of fact, she is still there and you can contact her if desired. You do have two others which we will not get into now but if you think about it, perhaps it will come to you. There have been others all through your life. You, because you are a daydreamer type, have had more than most. Each incarnation you have has the ability to have its own 144 Probable Realities.

A Probable Reality might take place such as this. Say you meet someone you really care about and you long to be with them. It breaks your heart to not be near them due to circumstances of each of your lives. You realize that there is no way this can ever take place in this lifetime so in your mind you regulate it to something that you will pursue in your next incarnation. But this doesn't stop the longing to be with this person and the idolization and adoration that goes along with this longing. This is so deep-rooted as to be embedded in your soul.

This becomes so strong that your teachers and guides on the inner planes feel the only way to snap you out of it and continue this life as it was meant to be finished is to pass this great desire on to a fresh soul that is from the same seedcore as you. (They have to be from the same seedcore or it can't work.) This person is appraised of the situation and agrees to take on the consequences of a life lived in nearness to the person you long to be with as a means of clearing up your path.

In other words, they came in with no particular agenda for themselves and taking over for you in this circumstance will enable them the opportunity of furthering their evolution. For them it will be like skipping a grade or grades in school to take on this situation for you. They will have access to the same material and thoughts and ideas that you have access to (through the teachers and guides). And also to the same desires that you have in relationship to this other person. The Probable Reality sacrifices their own right to their own exclusive  life in order to release you from the bondage you have sealed yourself in. You owe this person a huge debt and will most likely agree to repay this person in some future life. The Probable Reality can be known to you and you be in touch with it if you care to. So be careful of what you wish because you could cause it to become a reality.

How To Develop the Entrepreneur Mindset | SiteProNews: Webmaster News & Resources

Email This Post

business

The true potential of your business will only reveal itself if, you, as the business owner, start thinking “business.” Without the right entrepreneurial mindset, you certainly won’t see your business going anywhere in the years to come.

Small to medium enterprises, including home-based businesses, fail for a lot of reasons. Reasons include, but are not limited to, poor management, ineffective marketing, wrong market potential, and miscalculated capitalization.

But for whatever reason these businesses fail, one major factor to look into is the ability of the business owner to think and plan strategically to allow the business to overcome any challenges that may come its way.

When you start a business, you have to be prepared for all sorts of pressure coming your way. You have the utmost pressure to get it right the first time – make the right decisions, implement the right marketing strategy, hire the right employees, and have the right funding.

This may be achievable in an ideal business school setting, but things vary greatly in the real word of business.

It is necessary that you develop a business instinct so that you’ll know at once if a particular idea will work or not before you spend time, effort, and financial resources.

Some steps for developing an entrepreneurial mindset are listed below to help you get ready to embark on that dream business of yours:

1. Get an Ego-Check: Because they own the business, business owners often think that they can do whatever they want with it without needing the opinions of the other parties who make up the business model.

No matter how intelligent you are, there will always be something you won’t know, and this is where communication and open-mindedness will come to play. In the real world of business, it’s really not as simple as black or white.

2. Be Curious: When you are curious, you begin to explore other options and get to the root of the matter. Sometimes, if you focus too much on what you know, you will be blinded by your distinct belief in that certain idea.

By being curious, however, you are able to uncover possibilities and options which can make your business better. It’s always recommended to become a sponge for information in order for you to build an entrepreneurial mindset.

3. Don’t Focus on the Solution Alone: Instead of finding fast fixes to your problems, why not clarify the issues you have at hand first? You need to go through all aspects of the company and the problems you are facing so that you know where you stand.

And remember, unless your solution provides a business value or prevents another problem from occurring, then it will be a worthless one.

4. Gather Proofs: For you to really get to the bottom of things, you need to have hard evidence of what’s causing the problem. Be sure and be very specific with the questions you ask in order to get the correct answers.

Through these specific answers, you will be able to really see the real picture of things.

5. Calculate Risks: Risks are always a part of any business endeavor. But you must be able to weigh every investment and its corresponding return. You have to see how your decision will impact the business before you even implement it.

It is also necessary that you have a benchmark of success for your business so that you can check back at certain times to see if it is indeed progressing.

6. Consider Your Employees’ Welfare: Aside from thinking about how your decision will affect the business, you also have to consider how it will affect each and every one of your employees.

Any successful business owner will tell you that you cannot accomplish this on your own but you need a team of talented, loyal people working towards your goals.

7. Be Forewarned: If you see early signs of possible obstacles, then do your best to resolve it before it can even snowball into something larger. Even if you fail to resolve it when you see it the first time, at least you won’t be doing severe damage control later on.

8. Get to the Bottom of Things: Instead of solving the effects, see to it that you go right to the source of the problem. In order to understand completely, you must get all the facts and underlying truths. Never stop asking questions.

By taking these tips into mind, you will definitely be able to develop a business/entrepreneur mindset. Without it, your business won’t flourish as long as you want it to.

A Job Opportunity for Entrepreneurial New Grads - US News and World Report

Recent college graduates who are interested in entrepreneurship but not yet ready to leap into self-employment may want to check out a new program that will soon place young workers at startups.

Based on the Teach for America model, Venture for America will offer 50 positions at a variety of new companies in Detroit, New Orleans, and Providence, R.I., with the goal of growing both numerically and geographically in coming years. The nonprofit organization aims to both provide jobs for smart-minded young people and help new companies succeed in cities that need them.

"If young people are interested in entrepreneurship, learning how to build a business, potentially putting themselves in a position to learn how to build their own business someday, this is a fantastic learning environment for that," says Andrew Yang, who founded the organization. Yang created and worked with several startups, including Manhattan GMAT, a test-preparation firm that is now part of Kaplan Test Prep.

[See Why New Graduates Should Consider Entrepreneurship.]

Venture for America's application period opens in August, and the first participants will begin working in summer 2012. They'll bring home a salary in the mid-$30,000 range, paid by each host company. The organization itself, as well as training and recruitment, is funded by philanthropists and corporate sponsorship from IAC, an Internet company that includes Match.com and Vimeo.

Participating companies include Detroit Venture Partners, a venture-capital fund that backs new technology companies; VCharge, a Providence-based company that aims to make the energy grid more efficient; O'Connor Real Estate and Development in Detroit; and Liveset, a New Orleans company that streams live concerts in high definition.

"It's a really cool concept," says Josh Linkner, CEO of Detroit Venture Partners, which launched in November. "It's a win for the fellows themselves because they get exposure and experience in a world that's typically not easy to get into." And it's a win for the companies because it helps them bring smart workers on board, he says.

Detroit Venture Partners will place 20 to 30 participants at companies they fund or are affiliated with, Linkner says. "Entrepreneurship and innovation is what's going to get us out of the [economic] challenges we face today," he says.

[See Job Market Sucks? Not for Techies.]

For applicants looking to increase their chances of acceptance, Yang says Venture for America will look for innovators who have graduated college within the last few years, those who have proven that they're leaders and high-performers. Applicants should have studied economics, finance, or business, or somehow gained a basic knowledge of how businesses work.

They'll also be looking for applicants with Web and technical skills. "We'd certainly love programmers and engineers to apply," Yang says. "Just like other startup companies, our network of companies are hungry for programming talent."

Modeled Off of Teach for America, Program Aims to Attract Thousands Over Next Five Years, Spur Job Creation and Create Culture of Entrepreneurism

NEW YORK, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With the goal of directing thousands of this country's most talented and successful students into careers as entrepreneurs and job-creators, Venture for America (VFA) today announced the official launch of its organization and the beginning of an application process to recruit an inaugural pool of 50+ graduating college seniors from the class of 2012 ("Fellows").  Beginning in the fall of 2012, Fellows will take jobs at start-up companies in some of the most economically-challenged cities in the U.S., including Detroit, Providence, and New Orleans.

VFA is designed to do for entrepreneurship what Teach for America has done for education --

bring young, talented grads to work in underserved communities for at least two years.  At the same time, the organization aspires to spur enterprise and encourage entrepreneurship in parts of the U.S. that struggle to attract top college graduates. VFA expects to contribute to the creation of 100,000 U.S. jobs by 2025.

Detroit Venture Partners, an early-stage VC working to rebuild Detroit through technology and entrepreneurship already has verbally committed to hiring at least 20 fellows from the 2012 graduating class. "We are thrilled to join forces with Venture for America in an effort to facilitate urban renewal, job growth, and hope," said Josh Linkner, CEO and Managing Partner of DVP.  "We believe this incredible program will not only benefit our portfolio companies, but will also provide a rich experience for the fellows that, in turn, will shape their careers in a positive and high-impact manner."

"We're excited to have enterprising young college graduates come to Detroit to help build businesses," said Mayor Dave Bing.  "Detroit is a land of opportunity for those looking to make their mark."

"The overwhelming majority of seniors from the country's top universities opt for traditional careers in service-based industries within big cities like New York, Boston and San Francisco.  Far too few of them are engaged in job-creating enterprises—especially within communities dealing with economic transition," said Andrew Yang, founder and president of VFA, and also a successful entrepreneur in his own right, having sold a graduate school test prep company to the Washington Post/Kaplan.  "Our country's inability to channel its talent to create jobs is a major weakness for the U.S. in the global economy, and will only get worse if it's not addressed," he added.

Here's how VFA will work:

Start-up companies within the target cities will be identified within industries of great potential or future importance (e.g., energy, biotech, materials sciences, infotech, education innovation, etc.).  These start-ups will be presented with VFA fellows to hire for two years, at a discounted salary of $32- $38,000 per year.  At the end of the 2-year period, the company can hire the fellow under new terms.

Fellows will be selected through a competitive application process that will include peer and faculty recommendations, multiple interviews, case studies, business plan submissions, and behavioral exercises.  They can express preferences for regions and industries of interest, but will be obliged to accept their assignments.  Fellows will be sent in groups to cities to encourage a sense of shared experience and will live in group housing.

At the beginning of the program, fellows will attend the Venture Fellows Institute, a five-week boot camp that will consist of training programs in relevant skills as well as lectures, discussions and meetings with experienced entrepreneurs.  Brown University has agreed to provide its dorms and facilities to host the first Institute during the summer of 2012.

Fellows will also be gathered for an 'intermission' after the conclusion of the first year of their assignment and a one-week graduation program at the conclusion of the second year.  At the conclusion of the two years, the fellow who is determined to have performed the best during his or her fellowship will receive $100,000 in either seed investment for a new venture or support for his or her current company.  Over time, VFA will work with established venture capital or angel networks to enable multiple awards and vendor services with each award.

In addition to its Fellowship program, VFA will provide a centralized recruitment infrastructure for start-ups and early-stage companies across the country.  Applicants to the program will be included in a database that will be made available to approved companies for recruitment purposes.

About Venture for America

Venture for America (VFA) is designed to do for entrepreneurship what Teach for America has done for education -- bring young, talented grads to disadvantaged communities for at least two years.  Beginning in the fall of 2012, VFA will send an inaugural group of 50+ graduating seniors from the top U.S. universities to join start-up companies in some of the most economically challenged cities in the country including Detroit, Providence, and New Orleans.

VFA is a registered 501c3 non-profit corporation.  It has received commitments to-date of approximately $500,000 to commence operations and support from board members, philanthropic individuals and companies including IAC, Lawrence Lenihan of FirstMark Capital, David Lee of SVAngel, and Dan Porter of OMGPOP.  It has established partnerships with Detroit Venture Partners, Betaspring, Bizdom U., the New Economy Initiative, Rhode Island Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Ann Arbor SPARK and other regional start-up accelerators, investors, and incubators.

An Interview With Mark Cuban on Social Media and Entrepreneurship - Dan Schawbel - Personal Branding - Forbes

I had the chance to speak with Mark Cuban recently about his view on social media and entrepreneurship.  Although he’s currently a billionaire, he has been an entrepreneur since age 12 when he sold garbage bags door-to-door. Today, Mark founded HDNet, Broadcast.com and MicroSolutions. He has also been an investor in startups, including Mahalo, JungleCents.com, motionloft.com, Filesanywhere.com, Naked Pizza and 140Fire.com. You can see him on ABC’s Shark Tank, as well as on a few episodes of Entourage on HBO. Mark may be best known for his purchase of the Dallas Mavericks on January 4, 2000. He also co-owns the Landmark Theater chain, Magnolia Pictures and Magnolia Home Video along with partner Todd Wagner.

Who do you think will win the battle for our “internet ID,” Facebook, Google+, Twitter or LinkedIn and why?

I think Facebook has won to this point, but having a Gmail address will work in the Google ecosystem. It’s going to be challenging for the others.

What 3 pieces of business advice would you give to a first time entrepreneur?

  1. Sweat equity is the most valuable equity there is.
  2. Know your business and industry better than anyone else in the world.
  3. Love what you do or don’t do it.

Do your TV appearances on Shark Tank and Entourage help your businesses grow or are they more for fun? Can you describe their impact?

Entourage is for fun. It’s a blast to work with them. Shark Tank is fun, but it’s all business. We use our own money and the competition between the sharks is fierce. More importantly, it’s an opportunity to invest in businesses that are being watched and considered by millions of people every time it’s shown. And unlike any other reality show ever, not only is Shark Tank being repeated over and over , it’s winning its time slot in repeats. So the marketing and investment opportunities are both unique.

How did the jobs you had when you were younger (bartender, disco dancing instructor, and party promoter) help you become the businessman you are today?

I learned the value of every job and the impact an employee can have, both positively and negatively. I have stocked shelves, waited on tables and bartended. I have been a salesperson at many levels. Each giving me a unique view of what made a company successful and even more importantly, what made a company fail. I also learned that the more fun I could have on the job, the more and harder I worked, hence owning a bar and giving disco lessons.

Every job in a company is important. Unless you experience a wide range of those jobs, I don’t think you are as well prepared to start and run a company as you could be.

You get thousands of pitches from entrepreneurs looking for you to invest in their companies. What do you use to filter the pitches and how to you decide what to invest in?

I can tell after reading the first paragraph if I’m interested. If the pitch starts with a sob story, I’m out. If the pitch talks about personal issues. I’m out. If the pitch starts off with how big the market opportunity is, I’m out. If the pitch tells me what is unique about the product, how it can make a profit, AND it’s an area where I have expertise, I will read on. From there, it has to be something I feel is a unique product /service that can scale, be profitable AND again, matches my skill set so i can add value. I try to never be just a financial investor and I rarely do deals that are built on financial engineering.

Multiauthor Blogging - Collaboration Is Key

Jul 11
14

You have a blog and you write frequently and consistently. Your writing has a constant voice and many people read what you write. If you introduce other authors to your articles, the popularity of your blog will increase exponentially.

If you are the only writer on your blog, you are undoubtedly under a great deal of pressure if you are writing any more than once a week. The more pressure you are experiencing, the less likely you will be to continue writing on a regular basis. The worst-case scenario may eventually come true: you may stop blogging altogether. So, what can you do to make sure that your blog doesn’t end up that way? Bringing other contributing authors to your articles will make all of the difference to your blog and you will be pleasantly surprised at how popular it will become. Multiauthor blogging, which is a collaborative writing effort in any given blog article, can be a very effective approach. This should not be confused with guest bloggers. Guest bloggers are individuals who write their own blog article, which is posted on someone else's blog.

There are many different benefits to multiauthor blogging.

  • Different points of view: Every writer has a slightly different take on things. A blog article that has many authors will have several different styles (or “voices”) and the more people who contribute, the more variety of experiences they will write about. Different people have different experiences. On the receiving end of the writing, your readers have an opportunity to learn all sorts of interesting pieces of information that they wouldn’t necessarily learn from a single blog writer. The exposure to several different viewpoints is the fodder for stimulating discussions that can lead to subsequent discussions and possibly, business. Through that exposure, your readers will greatly expand their knowledge base in several areas.
  • Greater offerings: Because of the fact that one person can write only so much content, what you are offering online will be limited in quantity. However, if you have many different authors contributing to your blog articles, you can publish and syndicate a lot more and thus increase your professional online exposure and reputation. Another benefit is that your other authors can build their exposure and reputation while you are doing the same thing.
  • Return on investment (ROI): When you first start to blog, you should not expect a large amount of revenue to come in to your business. That aspect takes time before you see concrete results (generally three to six months). You may find that you are spending a great deal of time and energy on your blog in the beginning. If you bring in other blog authors to help you, it will be a lot easier to handle the volume of work that you wish to contribute. The entire process will get easier over time.
  • Sphere of influence: As one person, you have the ability to influence several people. On the other hand, if you are working with other blog authors, your influence plus their influence is really multiplied from what it would be for you alone. The more blog articles you generate, the more influence your blog will have and the more traffic will be generated to your website.
  • Team effort: It is much easier to produce a great deal of positive results when you have the backing and support of several people behind you than if you have to handle everything by yourself. Whether you intend to blog forever or for a shorter amount of time, the approach is the same. Working in a multiauthor blog environment will create a team environment and your content will be buzzing as a result.

The importance of the collective environment

You and your other authors are all responsible for cultivating online relationships and enticing people so that they want to interact online. If cultivated correctly, there is no telling how beneficial those relationships will be.

Conclusion

The beauty of multiauthor blogging is that each author can own his or her own space but at the same time, each author also has the benefit of the rest of the authors. With that in mind, it is important to understand that the author’s content not only represents him- or herself but also represents the blog as a whole. Bringing in other talented authors means that everyone benefits. Having many contributing authors enhances your blog and the positive effects that it will have on your readers.

Young CEOs Turn to D.C. to Promote Entrepreneurship - Washington Wire - WSJ

By Sara Murray

About 100 young CEOs descended on the nation’s capital Wednesday to encourage entrepreneurship among the country’s under-30 set – and to get that group to buy their products.

Behind them was Matthew Segal co-founder and president of Our Time, a nonprofit membership organization  launched this year that aims to promote economic opportunities for those under age 30.  Wednesday’s events rolling out of an initiative called Buy Young were a far cry from Mr. Segal’s Washington debut in 2009 when he essentially sought government handouts to help solve problems faced by young adults.

The CEOs lunched with members of Congress and met with White House officials. The events were less about lobbying and “more of a public relations use,” as well as providing networking opportunities for the group’s members, Mr. Segal said.

In 2009, Mr. Segal launched 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, and gathered a group on Capitol Hill to talk about college debts and troubles finding jobs. Their goal was improve the economic fortunes of those under 30, and they were relying on Congress to do it. Their asks included  free college tuition for low-income students in exchange for volunteer work and micro loans set aside for young people through the Small Business Act. After four months, 80 Million Strong it disbanded in August 2009.

There is no success like failure,” Mr. Segal said in a recent interview.

The emphasis now  is on entrepreneurship. Mr. Segal wants to leverage his generation’s consumerist habits to help one another out.

“Every single corporation wants us as consumers,” Mr. Segal said. “How can we take that consumerism and channel it in a way that helps grow the economy?”

That’s where Buy Young comes in. Those who sign up on Our Time’s site can get discounts (at  retailers like Rent the Runway (it rents designer gowns and has experienced its own set of growing pains) and Idea Paint (its paint turns walls into dry erase boards), all founded by entrepreneurs under the age of 30. The promotion ends next month.

The goal is to support young entrepreneurs, boost the economy and help those young bosses increase their hiring. But it’s partly self-preservation for Our Time, too. By offering more member benefits, Mr. Segal hopes to keep the group growing. His ideal vision is something along the lines of the AARP, the powerful seniors lobby, for a younger generation.

We are all geniuses up to the age of ten.

~Aldous Huxley~

See…? The genie in the bottle is within,  in that child who carried the connection with divinity and was bullied to forget…led by the illusion of separation and competition in its ultimate ignorance.

Retaining Millennials’ Knowledge - Chief Learning Officer, Solutions for Enterprise Productivity

PwC's Chairman Switches Tactic to Keep Millennials

PwC's Chairman Switches Tactic to Keep Millennials

Guest column: Faux activism - Opinion - The Diamondback - University of Maryland

Ted Nugent recently wrote an editorial in The Washington Times detailing how the Millennial generation has had an abysmal track record when it comes to mobilizing itself into meaningful political action, and then proceeded to talk about the good old days of the 1960s and '70s when there were real political movements among the youth of the United States. Despite my disgust at his destructive political views and tremendous ignorance regarding economic and social issues, I am inclined to agree with him on the first point.

The Millennials are awful when it comes to meaningful attempts at social change. The June 30 response to Nugent by Greg Nasif, entitled "Millennials: More engaged than you think," merely added more fuel to my belief that most so-called college activists are, in fact, terrified of social change and are ineffectual armchair activists who mistake talk and a virtual Internet presence for meaningful participation in the real-world battlegrounds where change is effected.

How can anyone claim they actually contributed to anything by sitting around on their laptop? I visited www.avaaz.org, as mentioned in Nasif's article, and it's literally just a depot for Internet petitions. How is this real activism? Any feel-good petition could be posted there, and is sure to acquire a large number of signatures from "activists" sitting far behind the front lines. Signing the petition means nothing, because it is entirely safe. Nothing has been risked, nothing will be gained. One could make a petition on Avaaz that's about ending the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. One could get 500 million people to sign it; it would fail. Governments the world over don't care about armchair activists at all; words are not actions. Without any sort of mobilization of the population to demonstrate the power of a popular movement, activism is sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I'm more than a little confused as to why this kind of completely inactive activism is something people find admirable. Why not fight police in the street if your cause is just? Why not interrupt political events if they are against your cause and violate the ideals you believe in? Is it because those things are — to borrow a phrase from Nasif — "downright barbaric?" All of the people in the Third World battling for their lives against repressive regimes are disgusting barbarians based on this assessment.

Philosophical non-violence is the purview of the privileged. There are rebel groups all over the world battling in the face of oppression. Would you support them if they organized sit downs and hunger strikes (and then get shot)? The Arab Spring worked as it did due to a very specific set of circumstances. This leads me to the definition of "meaningful protest," and why the recent "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" — also mentioned by Nasif as a form of his own activism — does not fit into this model in any way.

The rally was soulless consumerism at its finest. It was something allowing young liberals to congregate and say "I was there!" There were no goals, and there was no real point. Some people came out to show support against a conservative bogeyman and for some things approaching real issues. But most came out to congregate around corporate media and pretend that this meeting was important, though it had meaning in no other sense than through filling their own collective egos.

Do you think the protesters and supposed revolutionaries in the Arab Spring managed to overthrow their regimes through strategic clicks on an online form? In fact, a tremendous majority didn't use Facebook or Twitter or other social media; they actually went out and protested. Technology is a useful tool. However, many people today attempt to use it as a substitute for actual action. Signing online petitions and "liking" things on Facebook as a replacement for activity is a convenient illusion for the privileged. While I have my own issues with Arab Spring, at least they went out and did something. Armchair activism cannot and will not accomplish what civil rights protesters did in the 1960s and '70s, and while Ted Nugent looks back on those decades with a rose-tinted lens, he has a point about America's youth today. If you aren't willing to even argue and be passionate about your political and moral beliefs, then you'll be left by the wayside while the real activists and revolutionaries change the world.
